Post-Publication Discussion Policy

Encouraging constructive scholarly dialogue, critical engagement, and continuous improvement in community service and practice.

BARAKATI: Journal of Community Service welcomes scholarly discussions, comments, constructive criticism, and feedback from readers, researchers, practitioners, and the wider academic community concerning articles published in the journal. Post-publication discussion provides an opportunity to clarify findings, examine interpretations, identify limitations, and strengthen the contribution of published work to community engagement and sustainable development.

1. Purpose and Scope

Post-publication discussion enables readers and researchers to respond to published articles through evidence-based academic dialogue. Submissions may address the following:

  • Clarification of concepts, methods, findings, or conclusions presented in a published article.
  • Constructive criticism supported by relevant evidence, data, or scholarly literature.
  • Additional perspectives or contextual information that may strengthen the interpretation or practical application of the published work.
  • Identification of potential errors, limitations, or issues that may affect the reliability or interpretation of an article.

2. Submission Procedure

Readers or researchers wishing to submit a response, scholarly comment, or critique concerning a published article may contact the editorial team by submitting a Letter to the Editor through the journal's official email address.

3. Requirements for Scholarly Contributions

All post-publication contributions should meet the following requirements:

Academic relevance

The submission must clearly identify the published article being discussed, preferably by providing its title, author names, publication details, and DOI or article URL where available.

Evidence-based argument

Comments and criticisms must present clear reasoning and, where appropriate, be supported by relevant data, documented evidence, or scholarly references.

Professional and respectful language

Contributions must maintain a respectful academic tone, address the scholarly content rather than make personal attacks, and avoid defamatory or discriminatory statements.

Originality and ethical conduct

Submissions must respect intellectual property, cite sources appropriately, and comply with relevant publication ethics standards.

4. Editorial Assessment and Author Response

Upon receipt, the editorial team will assess whether a submission is relevant to the journal, sufficiently scholarly, respectful in tone, and appropriate for further consideration. Where warranted, the editor may forward the comments to the original author or authors and invite them to provide a response or clarification.

Right of Reply

Authors whose work is discussed will be given a reasonable opportunity to respond when the editor considers a response appropriate. The response should address the substantive points raised and provide relevant explanations or supporting evidence. The editorial team will handle the discussion impartially and will not assume that either the original authors or the contributors are correct without considering the available evidence.

5. Publication of Discussion Contributions

If a submission and any associated author response are considered to make a meaningful scholarly contribution, the editorial team may accept them for publication as a Letter to the Editor, a scholarly discussion, or another appropriate contribution in a future issue or on an appropriate journal platform.

Acceptance is subject to editorial assessment, relevance, clarity, scholarly merit, and compliance with the journal's publication policies. Submission does not guarantee publication. The editorial team may request revisions, seek additional expert input, or decline a contribution that does not meet the journal's standards.

6. Corrections and Publication Ethics Concerns

If a post-publication comment raises credible concerns about factual errors, research integrity, or the reliability of a published article, the editorial team will assess the matter under the journal's applicable publication ethics and correction or retraction policies. Depending on the evidence and seriousness of the issue, further action may include a correction, an expression of concern, or retraction where justified.

Commitment to Scholarly Dialogue

BARAKATI: Journal of Community Service encourages open, constructive, and evidence-based discussion as part of responsible scholarly publishing. The journal seeks to ensure that post-publication dialogue is handled fairly and transparently and contributes to the quality, credibility, and practical value of community service scholarship.
